Get A School Supply-Filled Backpack At A Nonprofit Back-To-School Event

The Upstate non-profit group, Carolina Family Services, is holding its 6th Annual Back to School Giveaway as the new academic year approaches.

To help local children in need, more than 500 backpacks filled with goodies and school supplies will be distributed for free. Every backpack will have a composition notebook, paper, a folder, and a pencil box with scissors, erasers, crayons, glue, and pencils.

“I think it really improves the student or child’s confidence really because you’re away for a time period in the summer, you’re not seeing as many of your friends but now it’s a fresh new start to the school year. Even for some students that are starting a brand new school, it’s all about having that first great impression,” said Operations Manager Alan Lopez.

The Back 2 School Giveaway will be held on Saturday, August 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Carolina Family Services Greenville office at 17 Memorial Medical Drive. To maintain social distancing, there will be a drive-thru and pick-up option available.

Any Upstate family in need is welcome to participate in the giveaway, but in order to get a backpack, a student must be present with a parent or guardian. Additionally, there are only a certain amount of backpacks available, therefore the giveaway will continue until noon or until all backpacks have been distributed.

The group guarantees that all donated supplies are disinfected and quarantined for 7 days prior to the event.

The Carolina Family Services helps families in the Upstate and offers services like pediatric care and mental health counseling. They provide services to many families who are at or below the federal poverty level.
