On Tuesday, Walmart announced its plans to establish a new, high-tech distribution center in Spartanburg County for fresh and frozen groceries.
According to the company, the more than 720,000-square-foot facility in Lyman will process perishable goods such as vegetables, eggs, dairy, flowers, and frozen goods and deliver them to neighboring stores using a combination of Walmart employees, automation technologies, robots, and machine intelligence.
The $450 million investment in the Lyman facility marks Walmart’s largest grocery distribution center to date, moving twice as much product as a standard supermarket distribution center and creating 400 new technology-focused job opportunities in the region, according to the company.
The Lyman facility is slated to open in 2024. Employment information will be made available closer to the facility’s opening date. Visit the company’s careers page to know more about career options.
