Travel + Leisure, a New York-based travel magazine, just published a list of The 15 Best U.S. Small Towns for a Summer Vacation, and Travelers Rest is among them.
According to the travel magazine, Travelers Rest is an ideal town for a summer getaway because, as its name implies, the town has served as a resting place for those making their way over the Blue Ridge Mountains for more than three centuries.
The town also has popular restaurants like Top Soil, Monkey Wrench BBQ, and Tandem Creperie. There are also plenty of housing options, including the Swamp Rabbit Inn TR, a quaint bed and breakfast, and Hotel Domestique, a boutique hotel owned by famed cyclist George Hincapie.
The magazine also mentioned that there are plenty of must-do activities in Travelers Rest, such as hiking or mountain biking on the 22-mile Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail, or more hiking or camping at Paris Mountain State Park or Jones Gap State Park. There’s also the free Music in the Park Series, which takes place every summer at TR’s Trailblazer Park’s amphitheater.
