“Buried the Roots for Now” will open Sept. 13 at Tiger Strikes Asteroid Greenville’s gallery.
The exhibition, which features works by interdisciplinary artist Jasmine Best and is curated by Carmen Bunche with assistance from Michael Webster and Kevin Kao, will be on display at Hampton Station Bay 6, Unit 601, 1320 Hampton Ave. Extension in Greenville through Oct. 5.
Best works with traditional and digital media to create dialogues about the Black female identity in the South and within predominantly white spaces. For “Buried the Roots for Now” she used quilts, brooms and banjos to draw from the folklore and histories of African Americans in the South, said the gallery in a news release.
Tiger Strikes Asteroid Greenville will host an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 21, at the gallery to celebrate the new collection.
