The Greenville Zoo has earned the Travelers’ Choice Award from TripAdvisor for the first time.
The award recognizes the top hotel, restaurant, and recreational opportunities for travelers. It is based on feedback gathered from visitors to TripAdvisor over a 12-month period from all around the world.
New activities and a rise in visitors have helped the Zoo turn a profit. Boo at the Zoo, an annual Halloween celebration, broke attendance and revenue records. During the typically slow month of December, the new event, Holidays at the Zoo, increased attendance by 15,000 people.
Greenville Zoo Director, Bill Cooper, stated, “We want to thank our amazing zoo staff, our guests, and animal enthusiasts for this tremendous honor.” “Our overarching mission is to save animals from extinction.” Second, to that, we want to make the Greenville Zoo a destination. This can and will be one of the best small zoos in America. “
While the Zoo was closed due to COVID, the City made considerable upgrades and hired new management. The Zoo’s accreditation was also extended by the AZA up to 2024 in November of 2020.
