This Christmas, Spartanburg residents may make new holiday memories by riding a carousel in the heart of downtown.
The City of Spartanburg has announced that the Dreamland Amusements Grand Carousel will come to Morgan Square this holiday season as part of the city’s expanded and enhanced downtown holiday programming.
The carousel will run from December 14 to January 1 and is presented by the Piedmont Interstate Fair Association.
According to city officials, the carousel will take the place of Skating on the Square, which was canceled this year due to a shortage of rental skates from the supplier.
The Grand Carousel’s 30 horse-style seats and two chariots will be free for all ages. Riders must be at least 36 inches tall, and those between 36 and 42 inches tall must be accompanied by an adult.
Aside from the Grand Carousel, the city is hosting a number of other free downtown events. The following is a list of all the holiday festivities that the city has scheduled so far:
- Saturday, December 11th, from 5 to 7 p.m. – Morgan Square’s Silent Disco for teenagers.
- Saturday, December 11th, from 7 to 9 p.m. – Morgan Square’s Silent Disco for adults.
- December 14 to January 1 – Dreamland Amusements Grand Carousel on Morgan Square.
- The city will also host “Selfies with Santa” and “Santa’s Toy Land” in Morgan Square, though the dates and times have yet to be determined.
