The City of Mauldin presents the 10th+1 Annual SOOIE. Mauldin BBQ Cook-off. The Mauldin BBQ Cook-off celebrated its tenth year in 2020, but COVID-19 prevented a full celebration. So, even though the festival is in its eleventh year, it will also be the ten-year celebration.
Hosted at the Mauldin Cultural Center’s Outdoor Amphitheater, SOOIE. will take place on Friday, September 17, 2021, 6-9 p.m., and Saturday, September 18, 2021, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The Annual BBQ Cook-off celebrates the community’s heritage through food and music with more than 20 cooks from across the Southeast competing in a BBQ cook-off judged by the South Carolina Barbeque Association (SCBA). It’s all topped off with some great music and some family fun.
The festival begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17. Sliders, grilled chicken, and smoked cobbler are just a few of the prior meals served by participating cooks. A guest panel will judge these dishes, with special awards presented to the winners at the ceremony on Saturday. The Vinyl Junkies will perform live music, followed by fireworks sponsored by United Community Bank.
The main event is a BBQ Cook-off competition on Saturday, which will be judged by a panel of SCBA certified BBQ Tasters. The public will be able to vote for the finest BBQ and the Gabe Hunter People’s Choice Award winner.
In addition, there will be a pig-calling contest, face painting, bounce castles, a petting zoo, and other events on Saturday.
