Rising 7th graders are required by state law to receive 1 dose of Tdap vaccine before they can attend school. The vaccine has been a state-wide requirement for rising seventh-graders since the 2013-2014 school year.
Tdap is only for children 7 years and older, adolescents, and adults. It protects children from tetanus, diptheria and pertussis, also known as whooping cough.
Greenville County Schools is reminding parents that students are required to receive one dose of the Tdap vaccine before they can attend school.
The Tdap vaccine is given by health care providers, many pharmacies, and the Greenville County Health Department.
Schools will require proof of vaccination from one of these providers in order for the student to attend classes.
