The Phillis Wheatley Community Center announced Aug. 30 it will induct former State Sen. Ralph Anderson (D-Greenville), Broadway star Phillip Boykin, community leader Bobbie Jo Clinkscale and business leader Stewart Spinks into its Hall of Fame at a ceremony Oct. 14.
Anderson will be posthumously inducted as public policy champion to honor his service as a Greenville City Council and South Carolina House of Representatives member and as state senator. He died in November 2019.
Boykin will be named as arts champion for his accomplishments as a Tony-nominated performer.
Clinkscale will be posthumously inducted as community champion. She served as an administrator at Phillis Wheatley Community Center.
Spinks will be honored as business champion for his contributions to Greenville has he grew his business and invested in the community. He is the chairman and founder of The Spinx Co., a convenience store and gas station business.
“The Hall of Fame Champions were selected for their extraordinary leadership and contributions to the community over many years. These four individuals have inspired us all with their leadership and accomplishments,” said Debra Rice, chair of the Phillis Wheatley board of directors. “We are honored to recognize them in the Phillis Wheatley Hall of Fame Champions so that future generations will continue to learn from their legacies.”
The ceremony will run from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 335 Greenacre Road in Greenville and will include a live performance by Boykin. Admission is $75 per person. For more information, visit philliswheatleysc.org.
