Here’s a recap of the Aug. 19 meeting of Mauldin City Council.
Initial approval: Franchise agreement with Ripple Fiber
Council approved a franchise agreement with Ripple Fiber. The internet provider plans to bring its service to the Carriage Run neighborhood off Holland Road and to focus on underserved areas instead of places with two or three providers. This item will go before the City Council for final approval Sept. 16.
Approved: Lease-purchase agreement with First Citizens Bank
Council approved a five-year lease-purchase agreement with First Citizens Bank for over $313,500 at a 4.33% interest rate. The city will use the funds to support the purchase of six police patrol cars, a sanitation grapple truck, a side-loader trash truck, two pick-up trucks, a sewer camera van and a sewer mini excavator. Debt services on these items will be funded from the city’s general and enterprise funds. Payments on this agreement will also be provided for in future budgets.
Final approval: Adams Glen pump station fee
Council approved plans to add a pump station fee to the platted lots in the Adams Glen subdivision. The fee will be $122 and assessed annually on each lot’s property tax bill.
Approved: Trailer purchase for Mauldin Police Department
Council approved a request from Mauldin Police Department to purchase a 5×8 enclosed trailer and a 7×14 enclosed trailer. MPD’s Community Division Team will use this equipment to carry items including cones and promotional items for community and recruitment events. The trailers are expected to cost $15,500 and will be covered by funds from the city’s Alcohol and Drug Abuse Fund.
Approved: Annual Greenville County Schools school resource officer agreement
Council approved an agreement with Greenville County Schools to provide SROs at schools in the city for the 2024-2025 school year. Under the agreement, there will be two officers in Mauldin High School, one officer in Mauldin Middle School, one officer in Mauldin Elementary School, one officer in Bethel Elementary School and one officer at the Golden Strip Career Center. GCS will pay $120,000 to the city to help pay for the SROs.
Reappointed: Mauldin Public Facilities Corp. board members
Council voted to reappoint Dianna Gracely, Rodney Neely and Cristina Ortiz as members of Mauldin Public Facilities Corp.’s board of directors.
