The County Square project in Greenville, located at the corner of University Ridge and South Church Street near downtown Greenville, is a massive undertaking that has been in development for a few years now. With a $67 million investment, the project is both extensive and bold, featuring cutting-edge facilities and modern amenities.
When finished, over 500 county employees will call County Square their new home, putting them at the center of one of the state’s largest economic development projects in decades. This new commercial and community hub will undoubtedly significantly impact the local economy, creating new jobs and propelling growth for many years to come.
The first phase of the project is nearing completion and is expected to be finished in the spring of 2023. The first phase of construction includes a 250,000-square-foot county administrative building. The structure will consist of two connected towers housing 500 employees and a $24 million parking garage.
The City Council approved the 250,000-square-foot building in 2020, and it promises to be an integral part of the city’s downtown landscape. County Administrator Joe Kernell describes the site as an “extension of downtown Greenville.”

Foster and Partners, a well-known British architectural powerhouse responsible for some of the world’s most iconic structures, designed the structure.
It should come as no surprise that the new County Square will be a masterpiece of contemporary architecture, fusing form and function in a gorgeous package that will serve as a beacon of innovation and advancement for Greenville County, given the excellent pedigree that went into its construction.
