Greenville City Hall redevelopment added to city council agenda

Questions about the future of Greenville City Hall may soon be answered.

The city of Greenville intends to enter into a non-binding agreement with M. Peters Group for the sale and redevelop of the building at 206 S. Main St. The new plans show City Hall potentially remaining at its current location post renovations.

Greenville City Council will vote on whether to authorize City Manager Shannon Lavrin to execute the letter of intent with the developer on Sept. 26.

The redevelopment project would turn the 52-year-old building into a mixed-use structure with commercial and residential space. Five to six floors – approximately 63,050 square feet – of the renovated building is planned to be used as City Hall. This would include new council chambers and department offices.

Several of the city’s departments including the city’s management and budget department are moving to the new public safety complex on Halton Road in the fall of 2024. As of now, the remaining departments will stay downtown.

M Peters Group was originally selected to complete the redevelopment project in March 2023. The Greenville-based development firm was chosen by the city and NAI Earle Furman.

According to the resolution, a formal development, conveyance and condominium agreement will be voted on by council at a later date.
