Hispanic Heritage Month is officially underway in Greenville, celebrating the customs, language and history of the Hispanic and Latino communities.
The nationally recognized celebration runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
To kick off the month-long celebration, Greenville Major Knox White declared Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 as ‘Hispanic Heritage Month’ in the city of Greenville. The proclamation reading was held on Sept. 19.
“The Hispanic population in Greenville has grown significantly, thereby enriching our communities with a dynamic and diverse culture and whereas this month, we celebrate and honor the growing influence of Hispanic and Latino communities and the sociocultural and economic fabric of South Carolina,” White said.
Adela Mendoza, executive director of the Hispanic Alliance, said the city of Greenville has embraced the Hispanic community and led the way in designing a landscape of inclusion that has attracted people and industry from all over the world.
“The magic that now characterizes Greenville did not happen by accident, though it is the result of a bold vision, ambitious planning, and a steady execution,” Mendoza said.

The Hispanic Alliance of South Carolina will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by hosting a series of events in partnership with community partners. Tiffany Santagati, chairwoman of the Hispanic Alliance, says the organization strives to elevate and amplify the diversity, talents, cultures and transitions of the Hispanic people in South Carolina.
“Every year, we come together just like this to celebrate the National Hispanic Heritage Month by publicly celebrating the Hispanic culture, the arts, the food through public art displays, – as we’ve seen – dances, festivals, and all types of celebrations,” Sangati said.
The Hispanic Alliance will host a free community concert at Camperdown Plaza starting at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 20. The event will feature live music from Latin Soul International Band and Latin dance performances by International Dance Academy.
A collaborative art exhibit called ‘Raíces de Quienes Somos’ or ‘Roots of Who We Are’ will be presented by the Hispanic Alliance in partnership with Good Art Co. The work of four distinguished artists will be highlighted during the two-week showcase. The artists include Carla Henríquez, Jorge Rojas, Orlando Corona, and Roberto Cortez.
