Here’s a recap of Greenville County Council’s Sept. 3 meeting:
Approved: Fire service bonds, millage increase
Council unanimously approved several measures for a number of fire services areas throughout the county to issue general obligation bonds for capital improvements and one proposed millage rate increase to cover higher operational costs.
The first measure approved at third and final reading authorizes the Fountain Inn Fire Service Area to issue up to $3.8 million in general obligation bonds to help cover the cost of building and equipping a third fire station.
The new station will serve areas both within the city of Fountain Inn and in the surrounding unincorporated areas of the county.
Council also approved second reading of an ordinance authorizing a millage increase for the Foothills Fire Service Area in the northern portion of the county to cover higher operational costs.
In other action, the council introduced for first reading a pair of measures authorizing the issuance of general obligation bonds for the Slater-Marietta Fire District and the Lake Cunningham Fire District.
The Slater-Marietta measure involves issuing bonds of no more than $1.27 million to complete construction of a new station on S.C. Highway 11.
The Lake Cunningham measure involves bonds of no more than $9 million to construct and equip a new station.
