Here’s a recap of Greer City Council’s Aug. 27 meeting:
Denied: Abner Creek/Brockman McClimon annexation
Council unanimously denied an annexation request for property at the corner of Abner Creek and Brockman McClimon roads where a roughly 150-unit townhome development was being considered.
Developers of the property at 1035 Abner Creek Road were seeking annexation into the city with a medium density residential (MDR) zoning classification, which would allow a density of up to 17 units per acre.
Second reading of the annexation ordinance came to council with a recommendation from the city’s planning commission to deny, in which the commission cited concerns about the density allowed under the zoning classification being sought.
Council members echoed those concerns during a prolonged discussion of the ordinance before voting to deny.
Approved: process to implement impact fees
Council unanimously approved a resolution directing the planning commission to study and make recommendations regarding development impact fees. Such fees are designed to help defray the increased costs of providing government services caused by new residential and commercial developments.
Council also unanimously approved first reading of an impact fee ordinance which lays out the purposes of such fees but does not yet specify the amounts.
The matter now goes to the planning commission for consideration, a step which will involve at least one public hearing.
