A Greenville man is honoring his mother’s legacy by publishing a book that helps children tackle the difficult subject of losing a parent to cancer.
“The Big Scary ‘C’ Word” follows a child trying to be brave and positive as his mother goes through doctor visits and illness. The book was written by Drew Stamm, a shareholder with NAI Earle Furman, and illustrated by Upstate artist Gray Taylor.
Stamm created the book in memory of his mother, Lisa Jo Stamm, who passed away due to lung cancer in 2021. She was “an incredible woman who loved the creative arts … and making an impact everywhere she could,” Drew Stamm said.
The book begins with an introduction: “Embark on a heartwarming journey through a difficult topic with courage and resilience in The Big Scary ‘C’ Word. Our main character, Jo, navigates the challenges of losing his parent to cancer and discovers that even in the darkest nights, love and light shine through.”
According to Stamm, all proceeds from the book will be given to the local community and families facing cancer-related issues.
The official publication date for the book is July 23. It is currently available for order at online book retailers such as Amazon and Barnes and Noble. The publisher is Charleston-based Palmetto Publishing.
