A New Food Hub Is Opening In The Upstate This Saturday

Feed & Seed Co., an Upstate nonprofit organization, will open a new food innovation hub within the Warehouse at the new Judson Mill development at 701 Easley Bridge Road on Saturday, April 9 at 8 a.m.

Feed & Seed Co., in partnership with Artisan Food Solutions, aims to ease community food insecurity by providing fresh, affordable food while supporting local farmers. It will provide healthy, inexpensive food to food relief organizations, schools, and residents.

Feed & Seed Co. board chair Mary Hipp said, “The short version of our mission here is to make fresh food affordable to all South Carolinians.” “We already have the farmers here. We have the buyers. But the system that connects the two is broken or just does not exist anymore. Feed and Seed is rebuilding that system, a direct connection from the farmers to the institutions—the kids in schools, the underprivileged, the everyday residents.

In the front of the 18,000-square-foot food hub is a café and marketplace where shoppers can get regular goods, such as fresh vegetables, quick nutritious meals, kitchen essentials, and other items, as well as breakfast and lunch dishes. A commercial kitchen will be located behind the market to support the cafe, which will be followed by another commercial kitchen.

The hub will also have a community space where residents can attend classes and farmers may receive technical assistance.
